Reasons for the Convention
The Constitutional Convention began because the Founding Fathers realized that the Articles of Confederation were not working for the new United States.
The convention lasted nearly five months (from late May to mid September).
Many decisions were made over the long five months, which was why the convention took so long. The major decision made at the convention was to get rid of the Articles of Confederation completely and replace them with the Constitution.
The two plans proposed were the New Jersey Plan and The Great Compromise. The New Jersey Plan favored smaller states more than larger states as each state would equally be represented in the House. The Great Compromise favored larger states more as the state would be represented according to population size in Congress.
